The Whirlpool-Maytag Family

The Whirlpool Corporation is an American multinational manufacturer and marketer of home appliances, headquartered in Benton Charter Township, Michigan. On August 22, 2005, Whirlpool entered into a definitive merger agreement with Maytag to acquire all outstanding shares of Maytag common stock. This means anything that once was Maytag is now Whirlpool. The name of Maytag is still in the market but all the rights belong to Whirlpool.

Whirlpool-Maytag – A TROUBLING MERGER

In appliances after 2000, we often see repairs around four to seven years or sooner. What’s more troubling is certain replacement parts become obsolete within five years. The consumer is left furious because they are forced with a decision of getting a new machine for hundreds of dollars. Whirlpool is a good brand and has continued its appeal and reliability throughout the years.

Maytag, however, has continued on its downward spiral as they continue making machines designed to fail. This keeps our business going, but as the consumer, you should research what your are purchasing and remember to get an extended warranty. The main manufacturer, Whirlpool, and all sub-companies stand by a one-year warranty on their parts.
